Tips on how to refresh your wardrobe from a Sydney Personal Stylist.

These tips were recently featured in Woman’s Day Magazine Style Section.

1 EDIT OFTEN

Overcrowded wardrobes make it difficult to see clothes, so you feel there’s nothing to wear and go out and panic buy. The cycle continues. Wardrobe space is prime real estate so be sure it only holds pieces that fit and suit, and you love to wear. Rearrange items by style or colour for a fresh, organised space.

2 WEAR ALL YOUR CLOTHES

Don’t save for specific occasions. For instance, style dressy pieces with trainers for day looks or pair work blazers with jeans or shorts. Working from home has changed workwear, so use all clothes, don’t just buy more. Work, going out and casual clothes all cross over now.

3 EXPERIMENT WITH NEW LAYERS

Try different combinations of basic and trendy pieces to make wardrobes feel new. Transform a dress to a skirt by layering with a T-shirt or sweater. Mix bold prints like florals with more neutral prints for an easy style refresh. Layering is essential to ageless dressing and elevating your style, including accessories such as handbags and jewellery.

4 USE STYLE TWEAKS

Turn up blazers or shirt cuffs to alter the look. Wear things that are not expected, that don’t always match. Colour blocking is on-trend, so play with colour combos t.

5 VISIT YOUR LOCAL TAILOR

Create hems on work trousers to modernise them. If jeans are too wide, have them taken in. Dress straps falling off your shoulders? Shorten the straps and the dress takes on a new life. It’s more cost effective to alter your clothes than to buy new and it means one less clothing item goes into landfill.

Give them a go! Have fun with your wardrobe. Re-imagine your style.
